Iraqiya List firmly opposes Al-Maliki''s bid for premiership

BAGHDAD, Oct 2 (KUNA) -- The Iraqiya List, a coalition of mainly secular parties, renewed Saturday its firm opposition to the candidate of the National Iraqi Alliance (NIA), outgoing prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki, for another term in office.
In a statement issued after an expanded meeting it held here, Iraqiya List warned against "regional interferences" in the domestic affairs of Iraq.
The meeting, held at the premises of the List a few days after NIA nominated Al-Maliki for the top post, gathered the leading members to mull the latest developments of the political landscape in the country since the start of the standoff after the March 7 legislative elections.
The conferees renewed vow not to take part in any government headed by Al-Maliki and commitment to the constitutions, the statement said.
The List, led by former prime minister Iyad Allawi, reaffirmed commitment to its political platform which gained legitimate mandate from voters in the last elections.
It condemned as illegitimate all attempts aiming to take over the coming government through deceitful ways, saying it would neither recognize nor cooperate with such government.
With 91 seats at the 325-member Council of Representatives, the List is the largest alliance in the legislature. (end) ahh.gb KUNA 022259 Oct 10NNNN
