GAZA, Sept 25 (KUNA) -- Thousands of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails
staged on Saturday a hunger strike due to the repressive policy practiced by
Israel against them.
According to the Palestinian media sources, the strike was aimed to
pressure the Israeli prisons administration to ease restrictions imposed on
the prisoners, which has intensified in recent months.
Solidarity protest and sit-ins are scheduled to take place today involving
the families of prisoners in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, with total of 7,000
captives held in various prisons in Israel.
Israel established about 25 prisons, detention centers and concentration
camps scattered in different areas, including the arrest of Palestinian
prisoners who spent decades behind bars.
Ministry of Detainees and Ex-detainees Affairs in the Palestinian Authority
has confirmed that the strike is a protest to increase prison services and
decrease repression against prisoners.
The Palestinian prisoners face frequent abuse as well as policies of
isolation and prevention of visits, it added. (end).
