ISTANBUL, Sept 12 (KUNA) -- A Turkish soldier was killed by the explosion
of a landmine in southeastern Turkey, a local source said on Sunday.
Hurriyet newspaper said on its website that Turkish forces were on a
routine patrol in the Eruh district of Siirt province when the landmine
exploded.
The landmine was suspected to have been planted by the outlawed Kurdistan
Workers Party (PKK).
The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States
and the European Union, regularly attacks targets in eastern and southeastern
Turkey.
Turkish reinforcements have been sent to the area, it added. (end).
