BAGHDAD, Aug 3 (KUNA) -- Five Iraqi soldiers were killed and eight
civilians wounded in separate attacks in Baghdad on Tuesday, police said.
Unknown gunmen armed with silencer-equipped guns killed five soldiers at a
checkpoint in al-Mansour district north of Baghdad, a police source told KUNA.
The attackers fled the scene after the deadly shooting
Separately, four people were wounded when a roadside bomb exploded on
Palestine Street east of Baghdad.
In al-Doura neighborhood, three people were injured in a roadside bomb
blast, and one person was wounded in an identical incident at al-Khilani
square in the city.
The Iraqi authorities have been struggling to restore normalcy to the
country in the face of a violent insurgency, waged by radical groups bent on
ousting the government and disturbing the peace. (end)
