BAGHDAD, July 26 (KUNA) -- Up to 65 people were killed or injured in
powerful explosions in the southern Iraqi city of Karbala on Monday, according
to the Iraqi police.
A police source said two booby-trapped cars were detonated at the southern
entrance of Karbala killing 19 people and injuring 46 others.
The police said earlier that attack was caused by the explosion of one car,
but then corrected the information to add another vehicle.
Hundreds of thousands of Iraqi Shiites are flocking into Karbala to
exercise religious rituals.
Security forces in Karbala slammed Karbala with a security siege as well as
deploying forces in the city to prevent attacks. (pickup previous)
