SANAA, July 26 (KUNA) -- A local leader of Al-Qaida organization was killed
in the militant attack that targeted an oil site in the eastern province of
Shabwa on Sunday, a security official said on Monday.
Brigadier Ahmad Ali Al-Mudishi, in charge of security in the province, said
in a statement to KUNA that the field commander of the notorious group, Zayed
Al-Deghari, and two members of the group were killed in the attack that also
claimed lives of six soldiers.
The militants reportedly engagded in a firefight with the government troops
at the foreign-run oilfield that produces 15,000 barrels of oil per day. The
site is operated by the Austrian energy group, OMV.
Yemeni Government has stepped up mop-up action against the Al-Qaida
militants, reportedly trying to be entrenched in tribal and mountainuous
