SANAA, July 23 (KUNA) -- Authorities are hunting for a Saudi national whose
car was used in the July 14 attack that killed five troops in the eastern
province of Shabwa, the Interior Ministry said on Friday.
The vehicle that was used by the attackers entered the country via the
border checkpoint of Al-Wadiaa. Name of the owner of the car was included in
the hit list of those fugitives wanted for the attack on the military patrol.
Meanwhile, the notorious group, Al-Qaida, said in a statement posted on a
website it was responsible for the deadly attack on July 14. It said the
attack was in retaliation for killing two leading members of the group by a
piltoless plane in the southern governorate of Abin in December.
The Al-Qaida statement said one of its members was killed and two others
were wounded in the assault, and threatened to launch further attacks.
In response, the ministry declared extraordinary precautions in all of the
country's provinces to abort possible attacks by the group.
Last month, Al-Qaida gunmen attacked a security building in Addan killing
two personnel.
Al-Qaida is reportedly seeking to be entrenched in mountainuous regions in
Yemen, using money to enlist activists in these impoverished areas. (end)
