LONDON, July 21 (KUNA) -- Two British soldiers were shot dead in
Afghanistan Wednesday, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) said.
The soldiers, one from the Royal Dragoon Guards and the other from 1st
Battalion Scots Guards, were killed by small arms fire, a spokesman said.
Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Lieutenant Colonel James Carr-Smith, said
"the soldiers were part of a cordon operation providing security for a routine
rotation of troops when they were killed."
There is mounting concern here following the rise in the number of
casualties among UK soldiers in Afghanistan.
There are around 10,000 British soldiers based in Afghanistan, the majority
in the tense southern Helmand province, a hotbed of insurgency. (end)
