LONDON, July 18 (KUNA) -- Four British servicemen have been killed in
separate incidents in Afghanistan in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of
Defense (MOD) has confirmed.
The MOD, late last night in a statement, said a soldier from the Royal
Logistic Corps died in a blast in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand
province. This death comes shortly after those of a Royal Dragoon Guards
soldier, a marine, and an RAF airman.
The UK death toll since operations began in 2001 now stands at 322.
Earlier yesterday, it was announced that a Royal Dragoon Guards soldier
died in a blast in the Nahr-e Saraj district.
The marine, from 40 Commando Royal Marines, was killed while on foot patrol
in Sangin district last Friday.
The airman, from the Royal Air Force Regiment, also died last Friday, in a
crash while on patrol.
Meanwhile, a major manhunt continues for a rogue Afghan soldier who killed
three members of the Royal Rifles at a base in Nahr-e Saraj, Helmand Province,
last Tuesday.
Concern is growing here over the rise in the number of deaths of British
troops in Afghanistan, amid calls for an end to UK involvement in the war
there.
But the government insists that this military involvement is designed to
bring stability to this war-ravaged country and to also ensure security here.
There are around 10.000 UK troops in Afghanistan, the majority in the
troubled southern Helmand Province.(end)
