KUWAIT, June 6 (KUNA) -- Kuwait diving team was able on Sunday to remove
nets discarded and entangled in the coral reefs in Kubbar Island waters east
of the Kuwaiti coastline, as they constituted a hazard for both sailors and
vessels and for marine creatures.
The team's naval operations official Walid Al-Shatti told KUNA today that
"the team dived to waters four meters deep to raise the nets that had caught
several long pieces of wood.
"The team was able to save marine creatures also trapped in the net," he
added, while noting that these creatures are vital for the effort to preserve
the Kuwaiti marine environment.
Al-Shatti called for visitors of the island to avoid the coral reefs, as
well as refrain from throwing waste of any kind, including discarded gear,
into the water to preserve the birds and other creatures of the ecosystem.(end)
