KUWAIT, May 28 (KUNA) -- Officials in Gulf teams that took part in the Gulf
ice hockey championship praised the Kuwaiti initiative of holding the event,
the first of its kind in the region.
The officials said in different interviews with KUNA that Kuwait's hosting
of the event highlights the emphasis it gives to new games.
Head of the Emirati delegation Hamad Al-Sheryan hailed the efforts of the
Kuwaiti ice hockey committee and its president Fuhaid Al-Ajmi.
He expressed hope that the championship would be held regularly in the
upcoming years.
Youth taking part in the championship should that they had great desire to
develop their skills and to compete in regional and international
championships, he noted.
On his part, head of the Saudi delegation Hani Al-Yamani said that it was
the first time that the Saudi team takes part in an event outside the kingdom.
He expressed hope that all Gulf countries would participate in the event in
the upcoming years.
Meanwhile, head of the Omani delegation Qasim bin Talib said that his team
was keen on competing in the championship because it was an excellent
opportunity to exchange expertise and learn from the Kuwaiti and Emirati teams.
The four Gulf countries of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates,
and Oman are taking part in the championship. (end)
