GAZA, May 9 (KUNA) -- Ismail Haniyeh, leader of the dismissed Hamas
government in the gaza Strip has sent at least two letters to US President
Barak Obama over the past few days but received no answer, according to
Israel's newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth on Sunday.
Citing US officials, the newspaper said the letters included proposals for
a Mideast peace settlement and reaching a ceasefire b etween the Palestinians
and Israel.
The sorces said the letters were an attempt by Hamas to break the group's
political isolation.
The announcement of the two letters comes as US Middle East Envoy George
Mitchell is about to declare launch of the in-direct negotiations betweem the
Palestinians and Israelis. (end)
