Sudan''s Nat''l Electoral Commission acknowledges tech. errors in voting

process (With photos) KHARTOUM, April 11 (KUNA) -- The Sudanese National Electoral Commission (NEC) on Sunday acknowledged the occurring of "limited" technical errors in the voting cards of 26 out of 821 polling stations in Khartoum.
A mix-up in the electoral symbols is what made the candidates' emblems become seven instead of eight, as well as "mistakenly" transferring balloting cards from station 28 to stations 27 and 26, NEC spokesman Abu Bakr Waziri said in a press conference.
These inadequacies caused the commotion and led to the partial closure and a delay on balloting in Sudan's first presidential and legislative elections since 1986.
The three-day long elections kicked off today in 1,300 stations, with final results to be announced within four days after the balloting process is over.
A number of political parties asked for extending the voting process for three more days in order to steer clear off errors. (pickup previous) hhi.hb KUNA 112312 Apr 10NNNN
