Iraqi Christians protest over ethnic violence, demanding further security
Religion    2/28/2010 9:54:00 PM

BAGHDAD, Feb 28 (KUNA) -- Dozens of Iraqi Christians took to the streets in the Iraqi capital on Sunday, to protest over the recent escalation of violence against them in the city of Mosul, and demand tighter security measures by authorities.
Representative of the Organization of the Iraqi Minorities, Lewis Iqlimus called on the government to reveal the latest on investigations related to the assassination of Iraqi Archbishop Faraj Raho two years ago.
He said attempts of assault and sometimes murder of Cvhristiuans in Mosul have forced the religious minority to think of leaving the city, they have come so long to be known as occupants in.
Member of Hammurabi Organization for Human Rights, Paskal Wardah, said that the violence that has targeted Christians is what brought her and the others out on the day.
Meanwhile, Deputy President Adel Abdulmehdi strongly condemned the attacks against Christians in Mosul, calling to protect this sect of the Iraqi society, which he regarded as "important." "We stand side by side with the families of the victims, and those who were forced to leave their homes. We also affirm the crucial need for security bodies to provide necessary protection for this important sect of the Iraqi society," he said in a statement issued through his media bureau.
