LONDON, Jan 28 (KUNA) -- Yemen's security and stability are facing several
internal and external threats which require combined international efforts,
said Kuwait's chief diplomat late last night.
Sheikh Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, Kuwait's Foreign Minister, said
during a conference on helping Yemen that the regrouping of Al-Qaeda in Yemen,
the lack of security in the Horn of Africa, refugees and piracy top the list
of external dangers threatening country's stability.
Calls for secession and clashes between government troops and Houthi rebels
are among internal dangers in Yemen, Sheikh Mohammed said.
To overcome these dangers, he noted, Yemen needs to activate political
dialogue and implement it political and economic program.
He said that Yemen needs international help on the matter involving the
nearly 800,000 Somali refugees and fighting terrorism and piracy in the Horn
of Africa.
The Kuwaiti minister said that Saudi Arabia will host a similar meeting in
late Febraury with the participation of donor nations and several
international organizations to review Yemen's commitment to reform.
For his part, Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghanem, head of the GCC department at the
Foreign Ministry, said that the international community plans to present more
aid to Yemen to help it in bringing law and order to the country.
The conference was attended by 21 countries and regional organization,
including the US, France, Germany, Italy, Arab Gulf states, the European
Union, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. (end)
