ISLAMABAD, Jan 3 (KUNA) -- Pakistani security forces Sunday said that eight
militants and two soldiers were killed and twenty-two suspects were arrested
in the ongoing operation in South Waziristan tribal agency, along the Afghan
border.
The Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) in a press statement said that in
a landmine explosion near Jandola sector a soldier was killed and four others
were wounded. Another soldier was killed in a similar encounter in Shakai
setor.
Also, said the statement, security forces carried out sanitization
operation near Sara Rogha area and killed three militants during an exchange
of fire. Four militants were also wounded, it said, adding, a cache of arms
and ammunitions was also recovered.
About twenty-two suspects were arrested during search operation near Jani
Khel area, said the statement. It said further that five more militants were
killed when security forces conducted cordon and search operation in Luni
area.
Pakistani forces have been conducting operation in South Waziristan
operation since October. So far, more than six hundred militants have been
killed and dozens arrested. (end)
