Qaeda used former prison detainees to launch attacks in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Dec 31 (KUNA) -- Former detainees of the Boca prison in Basra were lured by the Qaeda network in Iraq to launch attacks north of the country, said an Interior Ministry source on Thursday.
Interior Ministry official Major-General Ahmad Abu-Ragif told the press that three of the convicted individuals charged of mastermind the Tazah town attack in Iraq last June had been in the Boca prison before being recruited by Qaeda.
The three individuals would not face death after sentenced by the Iraqi judicial system.
The pardon decree approved by the parliament had witnessed some criticism recently due to the fact that some of the released detainees were involved in terrorist operations within Iraq. (end) ahh.gta KUNA 312044 Dec 09NNNN
