(with photos) PARIS, Dec 14 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti law researcher Mohammad Al-Kandiri became on Monday a member of the French Institute of Islamic Finance.
Al-Kandiri, who is Vice President of the National Union of Kuwait Students (NUKS) in France and neighboring countries, expressed happiness of getting the membership, saying it was a Kuwaiti achievement before being a personal accomplishment.
Al-Kandiri, who is preparing a PhD thesis at University of Strasbourg on commercial law regarding Islamic banks in Kuwait and other Gulf countries, told KUNA that the institute aims to spread the culture of Islamic finance in France in particular and Europe in general.
The institute, headed by Jean-Paul Laramee, conducts studies and holds conferences on Islamic economic from legal, economic, and even social aspects, he added.
He noted that France recently gave great attention to Islamic economy, especially after the world economic crisis and the collapse of many banks and investment companies.
He pointed out that the attention was stressed through issuing a law on Islamic bounds (sokouk) in France last September, adding that it is expected that the first Islamic bank here will be established soon.
The French government aims to make Paris one of the main Islamic finance centers in the world, he noted.
In France, there are many Arabs and Muslims who have a strong influence on the strength of the French local economy. (end) tm.ris KUNA 140947 Dec 09NNNN
