Abbas condemns settlers setting fire to mosque

RAMALLAH, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned on Friday the act of arson by Jewish settlers against a mosque at Yasouf village near the city of Nablus.
In a statement to the press, Abbas said that the attack represents a violation to the freedom of worship and belief, in addition to the sanctity of holy places.
The fire gutted by the extremist settlers in the great Yasouf mosque, destroyed the library and its contents in addition to near structures to the mosque.
Villagers said that if they have not contained the fire, it was going to spread to nearby houses.
Extremist settlers infiltrated to the mosque from the Jewish settlement of Tafouh, which is next to Ariel, one of the largest settlements in the West Bank.
Israeli local radio said that Israeli Army is investigating the attack, claiming that the identities of the arsonists were still anonymous. (end) nq.mao KUNA 111730 Dec 09NNNN
