Saudi Arabia records four swine flu deaths of pilgrims
Health    11/21/2009 8:08:00 PM

RIYADH, Nov 21 (KUNA) -- Saudi Arabia announced on Saturday that it had registered four deaths as a result of swine flu among pilgrims, pouring into the holy land to perform Hajj rituals, who had not conformed to regulations that call for vaccination against the disease.
Of the cases was a Sudanese national aged 75 years old, who began to show symptoms four days after his arrival, said the Saudi Health Ministry in a statement.
The case was immediately referred to the Sudanese medical delegation in Saudi Arabia without receiving vaccination.
Other cases include a 17-year-old Nigerian girl who had arrived at Madinah from Cairo, an Indian 75-year-old man, and a Moroccan 75-year-old woman.
The ministry in its statement reiterated its instructions also adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO) on the need to take required vaccination, and for those suffering ailments like heart disease, respiratory diseases, obesity, and pregnant women not to perform Hajj, along with people 12-65 years old, who all follow the jurisdiction and are under the responsibility of their own national health authorities.
The ministry also said that individuals accompanying the cases have all been referred to local health authorities for inspection. (end) od.sd KUNA 212008 Nov 09NNNN
