SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt, Nov 9 (KUNA) -- The fourth ministerial meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) adopted here on Monday the Sharm El-Sheikh Declaration calling the developed nations to meet their commitments towards the developing ones.
The document along with the Sharm El-Sheikh Action Plan set forth new programs and guiding principles of China-Africa cooperation in the next three years.
The declaration, the political document of the gathering, urged the developing economies to adopt effective tools for economic assistances to, and debt relief for, the developing countries.
The developed nations should direct more investments to, and open their markets for the products of, the developing ones in order to help them achieve sustainable development, the document underlines.
The FOCAC has given strong momentum to cooperation between the two sides since it was launched nine years ago, it pointed out.
The forum provided to be new type of strategic partnership that reflects the common visions of both sides for major international and regional issues and expresses their aspirations under the new circumstances, it added.
The two sides voiced common concerns about global issues such as the food insecurity, energy deficiency, the economic crisis, pandemics and climate change, according to the declaration.
The financial crisis has had greater impacts on the developing economies than those on the developed ones.
It added strains to the already fragile economies and further complicated their pursuit of sustainable development, the declaration explained, urging the international community to word together for controlling the impacts of the crisis.
The Action Plan outlines the way for maintaining high-level exchanges between China and African countries and promoting regional peace and security.
It states that the two sides will work together to strengthen coordination and cooperation in the face of common challenges such as financial crisis, climate change and reform of the international economic order.
It is part of their common pursuit to achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals and the Doha round negotiations.
The two-day forum called on the developed countries to adopt more effective methods for honoring their commitments to assist the developing countries with a view to helping restore the latters' economic growth. (end) bna.gb KUNA 100016 Nov 09NNNN
