Iran rejects Israeli accusations of transferring arms to Hezbollah via Syria as "baseless"
Politics    11/7/2009 9:08:00 AM

UNITED NATIONS, Nov 7 (KUNA) -- Iran late Friday denied the Israeli accusation that it is transferring weapons to Hezbollah through Syria and accused Israel of fabricating the seizure of the arms cargo vessel 'Francop' on Wednesday.
This is not the first time that the Israeli Regime levels "baseless and unfounded allegations against Iran concerning the so-called 'transfer of weapons' to Syria and then Lebanon," the Iranian Mission to the UN said in a press statement released here.
Iran, the statement added, while "categorically rejecting" these allegations, believes they are based on "totally false and misleading information" provided by the Israeli regime and aimed at distracting the public opinion from the consequences of the Goldstone report in the General Assembly and the atrocities it continues to perpetrate against the people in Gaza.
The Iranian statement came one day after Israeli UN envoy Gabriela Shalev urged the Security Council in a letter Thursday to take "appropriate action" against Iran for violating Security Council imposed arms embargo.
"In this regard it should be underlined that unquestionably, the Israeli regime, with its long record of ill-intended misinformation campaigns, and as a regime that according to numerous UN reports has violated many resolutions, has no legitimacy or credibility to level such groundless allegations against others," the statement said.
