US expresses concerns over expansion of conflict on Saudi-Yemen border

WASHINGTON, Nov 6 (KUNA) -- The United States expressed on Friday concern over the expansion of conflict on the Saudi-Yemeni border and noted that there is no long-term military solution for the conflict between the Yemeni government and the Houthi rebels.
"We are concerned by the expansion of the conflict along the Saudi-Yemeni border. It is our view there could be no long-term military solution to the conflict between the Yemeni Government and the Houthi rebels", told reporters State Department spokesperson Ian Kelly.
Saudi Arabia launched air strikes on rebels crossing into Saudi territories early this week after the Houthi rebels reportedly seized a border area inside Saudi territories. Houthis said the Saudi forces attacked them inside the Yemeni soil but Yemeni authorities denied that Saudi planes crossed the border.
"We call on all parties to the conflict to make every effort to protect civilian populations and limit damage to civilian infrastructure. But I do not have any information about whether or not the conflicts were across the border or not", noted Kelly. (end) jm.bs KUNA 062213 Nov 09NNNN
