KABUL, Oct 24 (KUNA) -- Three foreign soldiers have been killed in separate
incidents of violence in Afghanistan, the NATO-led International Security
Assistance Force (ISAF) said on Saturday.
The slain soldiers included two Americans and one from the ISAF. The
statement said the American soldiers died as a result of an improvised
explosive device (IED) blast, while the ISAF soldier died of wounds he had
suffered in a fire fight incident.
Both incidents occurred in southern Afghanistan on October 23, it added.
Separately, the ISAF troops killed a dozen militants and detained several
suspects in Kandahar province on after stopping a number of vehicles in
pursuit of a Taliban commander from Maiwand district of the province.
The Afghan and ISAF force searched each of the vehicles and recovered a
number of small arms weapons, documents and 2,600 pounds of black tar heroin.
The joint force identified one of the dead militants as the sought-after
Taliban commander of Maiwand district, said the statement.
Separately, the Afghan and international troops detained several suspected
militants after searching compounds in Wardak province known to be used by a
Taliban commander and facilitator and his element responsible for several
rocket and IED attacks in the region. (end)
