KABUL, Sept 12 (KUNA) -- Seven Afghan policemen were killed in an overnight
attack on their post by Taliban militants in northern Afghanistan.
The attack was carried out in Imam Sahib district of the northern Kunduz
province Friday night, a senior police officer told the press on Saturday.
He said seven policemen were killed while two others were missing. Taliban
claimed responsibility for the attack and said seven policemen were killed.
Taliban attacks on local and foreign troops have registered a sharp
increase in the northern zone, once considered the most peaceful area in the
troubled country.
A week ago, Taliban kidnapped two oil tankers destined for NATO troops in
the same province. An air strike was carried out to target the militants that
killed nearly 100 civilians.
Days later, a British journalist and his Afghan interpreter were kidnapped
in the same area and NATO carried out another operation that helped rescued
the British journalist but resulted in the death of the Afghan interpreter,
which triggering criticism of foreign troops for not saving the life of the
local journalist. (end)
