KABUL, Aug 2 (KUNA) -- Two soldiers of the International Security
Assistance Force (ISAF) have been killed in southern Afghanistan.
The soldiers died on Saturday when their patrol struck two improvised
explosive devices (IEDs) in southern Afghanistan, said an ISAF statement on
Sunday.
Earlier, the multinational force had announced the death of its three
soldiers in two explosions in the same southern zone. Those killed in the
earlier blasts were said to be Americans and the location was the southern
province of Kandahar.
"Yesterday was a very tough day for ISAF as we lost more brave soldiers who
were striving to provide security to the Afghan population," said ISAF
spokesperson Brigadier General Eric Tremblay.
"I wish to convey my most sincere sympathies to those families and friends
who grieve for these tragic losses," the spokesperson added.
As a matter of policy, the military did not release names and nationalities
of its slain soldiers. Also, exact location of the blasts was not made public.
The NATO-led ISAF had lost more than 70 soldiers with 40 of them Americans
and 26 British in the month of July. The current month, also called the
election month in Afghanistan, is seen to be the bloodiest like the previous
one as the death tally of the multinational force reached to six in the first
two days. (end)
