ISTANBUL, August 1 (KUNA) -- A Kurdish insurgent affiliate to the outlawed
Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) turned himself in to Turkish authorities in the
southeastern province of Shrnak, the Turkish military said on Saturday.
The Kurdish insurgent escaped from the PKK military camp, located in
northern Iraq, because of the pressure that the PKK had come under and the
hard hits they suffered on the hands of the Turkish forces.
The insurgent willingly turned himself in, the statement added.
The PKK has been fighting the Turkish authorities for an antonymous Kurdish
state since 1984, and 40,000 people were killed since then. (end)
