RAMALLAH, July 15 (KUNA) -- The Israeli organization, Breaking the Silence,
issued a report that included testimonies of Israeli soldiers that took part
in the recent attack on Gaza, admitting committing war crimes in the Strip.
The soldiers said they used Palestinian civilians as human shields and
demolished hundreds of houses and a number of mosque although that was
unnecessary.
Yedioth Ahronoth Israeli newspaper said Wednesday that only one out of 54
soldiers revealed his name.
One of the soldiers said that excessive force was used and heavy fire was
opened during the incursion of Israeli forces in residential areas, which led
to the killing of a large number of innocent people, it said.
The soldiers also said that phosphorus shells were used in Gaza, a thing
that was denied by the Israeli Army after the attack, it added.
Meanwhile, spokesman of the Israeli Army told Radio Israel that the report
of Breaking the Silence consisted of testimonies of unidentified soldiers,
disabling the army to investigate the issue.
He called soldiers to submit their testimonies to the army not to
organizations that aim to attack the army. (end)
