NEW DELHI, July 4 (KUNA) -- At least two militants and one Indian Army
soldier were killed in an encounter in India's northern most state of Jammu
and Kashmir, a Press Trust of Trust (PTI) report said Saturday.
The encounter began late on Friday night in the state's Kupwara district,
and lasted several hours.
The gunbattle broke out at Wadderbala forest when a joint search party of
police and an Indian Army unit confronted the hiding militants, who fired upon
the former and in the ensuing gun battle which lasted nearly 24 hours, two
militants and a soldier were killed.
While one militant was killed Friday, another ultra and the army soldier
were killed early Saturday.
Two assault rifles, two magazines and some rounds of ammunition were
recovered from the possession of the slain militants, believed to be foreign
nationals, the PTI report said. (end)
