BAGHDAD, June 6 (KUNA) -- US forces are continuing to pull out from their
military basis in Iraqi cities, in line with the security agreement signed
between Baghdad and Washington, said spokesperson for the Baghdad Operations
Command Major General Qasem Atta on Saturday.
The Iraqi forces are capable of guaranteeing security in the country, he
affirmed at a press conference, adding that the US forces had pulled out of at
least 80 percent of their military basis in Baghdad and other cities.
US advisory teams have remained to offer consultation and training to the
Iraqi forces based on prior agreement with the Iraqi side, Atta affirmed.
The Iraqi forces are up to the task and ready to fill the void after the
withdrawal of the US forces, he added, noting special joint committees were
assessing the situation and supervising the withdrawal.
The security agreement between Baghdad and Washington stipulates that US
forces are to pullout from the Iraqi cities by the end of June and that
complete withdrawal from Iraq is to take place in 2011. (end)
