Military kills over 24 more militants in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, June 1 (KUNA) -- While the the Pakistani Army operation against militants has entered into its final stage, military Monday declared killing over 18 more rebels in Malakand Division and a tribal agency along Afghan border.
About 18 more militants and two soldiers were killed in last 24 hours in Swat valley of Malakand Division and South Waziristan tribal agency, said the military in a press statement. However, security sources told KUNA, that more than two dozen militants were killed in the ongoing operations in Waziristan and Swat valley.
Meawnhile, President Asif Ali Zardari has said that the war against militancy is a total war and each and every section of the society must rise to the occasion to "defeat the mindset that creates and nurtures militancy." In a high-level meeting with Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, the President reviewed the law and order situation of the country and expressed satisfaction over the success achieved in the war.
The day was not far when militants would be so crippled that they will pose no threat to the people and the country, Presidential spokesman, Farhatullah Babar, quoted him as saying during the meeting.
Babar told the media that the President said the war designed to subdue and defeat the militants militarily and win the hearts and minds of the internally displaced people. (end) amn.rk KUNA 011647 Jun 09NNNN
