ISTANBUL, May 9 (KUNA) -- The Turkish army announced Thursday the arrest of
five members of the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK), who surrendered to Turkish
forces in the southeastern region of the country.
Zaman newspaper, in its online edition, quoted an official at the Turkish
Army Command as saying that since operations against the PKK began on April
17, five Kurdish rebels surrendered, while one was killed and five were
apprehended.
Two Turkish soldiers were killed in the operations, he said, adding that
the operations came within efforts of the Turkish authorities to eliminate
Kurdish activity in the country. (end)
