UNITED NATIONS, May 4 (KUNA) -- The candidature of Ali Abdessalamm Al-Triki
of Libya to become the UN General Assembly President for its 64th session has
already been endorsed by the African Group and he will be officially elected
on June 10, a diplomatic source told KUNA on Monday.
He will replace Father Miguel D'Escoto Brockmann of Nicaragua whose
Presidency of the Assembly's current 63rd session ends in mid September.
Al-Triki served as Libya's UN envoy three times and as Secretary for
African Affairs from 1999 to 2003.
In mid-2004, he was appointed as Special Adviser to Libyan leader Muammar
Al-Gaddafi, and in 2005, he began a tour of African countries, acting as
Gaddafi's special envoy to work toward solutions for several African conflicts
and disputes. (end)
