CAIRO, April 3 (KUNA) -- Tests on usage of stem cells in curing spinal cord
injuries were implemented here for the first time, while the medical sector in
Egypt prepared to announce the results.

Dr. Mohammad Rida stated to the media that the results were promising,
prospected to helped in control of vital functions in the body and lead to an
improvement in patients' medical and psychological state, adding that
experiment was done in cooperation between Egyptian and German doctors.
Meanwhile, a two-day conference will be held in conjunction with the 4th
Arab African conference on April 8-9, under the patronage of Egyptian Prime
Minister Dr. Ahmad Natheef, in which 50 scientific researches would be
discussed on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of back pain, roughness of
cartilage and bone fragility.
The conference will address the question of spreading awareness among
women, especially businesswomen, on means of prevention of back and neck pain
and educating school children on right way to carry schoolbags.
Dr. Rida emphasized importance of sitting properly in front of computer
screens, having head in a straight position. People spending long time in that
position are most prone to suffer from back and neck pain, he added.
The conference will also discuss the use of modern methods of diagnosis,
particularly magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and the way it determines the
proper method of treatment, as well as psychological stress and its
relationship to back pain.
He stressed that it would be attended by selected European doctors,
specialized in curing spinal cord injuries, back and neck pain, besides the
Egyptian doctors. (end)
