TEHRAN, March 27 (KUNA) -- Top leaders of Syria and Iran believe that the
regional balance of powers is tilting in favor of the Muslim nations at
Israel's expense.
In a telephone conversation, the Iranian and Syrian Presidents have stated
Israel and its allies are getting "weaker" and instead the tide is turning in
favor of regional Muslim nations, the Presidential office said in a press
report on Friday.
According to Mehr News Agency, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said "the
enemies of regional peace are losing the ground but the formidable alliance of
friendly countries like Iran and Syria are getting more powerful."
The Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad also insisted that regional developments
"are turning in favor of Muslim countries and to the detriment of the Zionist
regime and its allies."
Ahmadinejad said regional countries must use this "opportunity in a clever
way."
Syria and Iran have long been tied with a strategic and cooperation treaty.
Their alliance is perceived as a "a camp of rogue powers" against the US.
US President Barrack Obama, since taking office, has repeatedly indicated
at his desire to adopt a pragmatic policy in dealing with Tehran and Damascus,
in addition to encouraging a peace settlement between the Israelis and
Palestinians. (end)
