BAGHDAD, Jan 11 (KUNA) -- Iraqi parliament on Sunday postponed the
selection of its new speaker to a subsequent meeting after a consensus was
made on a candidate chosen by the Iraqi Accordance Front (IAF), to the post.
A media source in the Iraqi parliament said in a statement to Kuwait News
Agency (KUNA) here today that the MPs decided to postpone the election of the
new speaker until a consensus is reached among the political blocs on one
candidate submitted by the IAF.
The source pointed out that the MPs decided to postpone this matter till
next Saturday's session.
Today's session was limited on condemning the Israeli aggression against
the Gaza Strip, where a number of MPs read statements of condemnation and
outrage.
The head of the Accordance Front, Adnan al-Dulaimi, said yesterday evening
that his bloc nominated a candidate to succeed Dr. Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, who
tendered his resignation from the Parliament presidency last December 23.
Al-Dulaimi did not disclose the name of the candidate. (end)
