ISTANBUL, Dec 12 (KUNA) -- The Turkish army announced on Friday, that it
has managed this year to take down around 670 Kurdish militants southeast of
the country.
Turkish military operations inside the country and in northern Iraq have
led to the killing of these numbers, as well as the apprehension of 214 others
and the surrender of 165 Kurdish armed insurgents of the Kurdistan Workers'
Party, also known as the PKK, said a Turkish army statement.
In the periods from January 1 until December 10, 91 kgs of G4 explosives
and 80 kgs of A8 composite explosives were also found in the possession of
these militants.
The statement however did mention the number of Turkish casualties.
The PKK which has been carrying out attacks on Turkey since 1984, is
considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the European Union.
The Kurds who inhabit regions in Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Turkey have been
aiming at establishing an independent state in southeastern Turkey. (end)
