NEW DELHI, Dec 12 (KUNA) -- Indian security forces have gunned down at
least three militants, including two suspect members of the militant outfit
"People's United Liberation Front" (PULF), in northeastern state of Manipur.
In the first incident which happened in Manipurs Langmeithek area,
security personnel and police commandos detected some persons moving in a
suspicious manner. On being asked to stop, the militants opened fire on the
security personnel, officials said.
An encounter ensued between the two sides in which two militants were
killed. Some arms and ammunition, including one 9mm pistol, one country made
carbine, one grenade and some rounds, were recovered from the slain militants
possession.
Manipur is one of the seven north-eastern states in India, popularly known
as "seven sisters." And most of them, mainly Assam, Nagaland and Manipur, have
been infested with militancy for almost a decade.
In Manipur alone, over 365 persons have so far been killed in
militancy-related incidents. (end)
