Suicide attack on German troops; bomb kills Afghan officials

KABUL, Sept 23 (KUNA) -- Only the suicide bomber was killed in an attack on a German forces' convoy in northern Afghanistan while two senior district officials were killed in a roadside bomb attack on their vehicle in the country's southern zone, officials said.
The suicide attack was carried out in the northern province of Kunduz on a joint convoy of the German and Afghan troops on Tuesday morning, provincial Governor Mohammad Omar said.
None of the soldiers or civilians was killed or injured as the bomber detonated himself prematurely, he added.
However, claiming responsibility for the blast, Taliban spokesman Zabeehullah Mujahid said "several soldiers" were killed and injured. His claim could not be confirmed from an independent source.
Separately, two senior district officials were killed in a roadside bomb blast in southern Afghanistan, police said.
The incident happened in the southern province of Kandahar, the former stronghold of the anti-government Taliban militants, on Monday evening.
Chief of Registan district Ameer Mohammad and district police chief Asadullah, were on way home in a car when it hit an improvised explosive device (IED) killing the two on the spot, provincial police chief Matiullah Khan told journalists.
The police chief said the two officials were on way to their homes in the border town of Spin Boldak. Taliban claimed responsibility for the blast. (end) gk.tg KUNA 231028 Sep 08NNNN
