H.H. PM''s visit to US "important" -- Kuwaiti FM

By Jamal Yalli KUWAIT, Sept 14 (KUNA) -- His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah's visit to the US is an important step to boost bilateral relations, affirmed a Kuwaiti official Sunday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah stated to KUNA before his departure within the delegation accompanying HH the premier that Sheikh Nasser would be meeting with US President George W. Bush. Discussion would centre on important regional and international developments, the foreing minister said, noting that the visit is in response to an invitation by the US president.
The visit coincides plans by the Kuwaiti leadership to transform the country into a regional economic and commercial centre within the period from 2009 till 2014, said Sheikh Mohammad.
"We are continuing the dialogue with the US on signing an agreement for a free-trade zone and the visit will focus on means to achieve this plan," said Sheikh Mohammad. The Foreign Minister also stated that the issue of Kuwaiti detainees at the Guantanamo Bay prison would be brought up during the visit.
Also reflecting the true nature of Kuwaiti Islamic chartable societies would be on the agenda of His Highness discussions with US officials, affirmed Sheikh Mohammad.
He also reflected on Sheikh Nasser's visit to New York, saying that His Highness is going to head Kuwait's delegation and address the 63rd UN General Assembly.
Sheikh Nasser is going to head a round-table discussion on aims in the third millennium which would be attended by world leaders, pointed out Sheikh Mohammad.
Regional discussions with the US is to focus on the recent political developments while international level talks are going to feature Bush's views on the solutions for the Middle East peace dilemma.
