ALGIERS, Sept 6 (KUNA) -- Algerian security forces have killed a senior
member of Al-Qaeda in the region of Tadmayet in Tizi-Ouzou east of the
capital, a security source said on Saturday.
The source said Salami Abdel Qader, 30, a military advisor in the shadowy
organization, was killed in an ambush set up by the army troops in the town,
some 64 kilometers east of the capital.
The slain activist had joined the organization in 2006 and was responsible
for a series of armed and suicide attacks against state targets.
Separately, the governemnt forces detained four members of a cell for
Al-Qaeda in Al-Bayyadah in Wadi Suf, 539 km south of Algiers, the source said.
The troops, during the operation, located concealed caches of weapons and
ammunition, including a Kalashinkov rifle and a hand-grenade. The arms were
hidden in an oasis in the region.
The busted cell was involved in recruiting youth for joining Al-Qaeda and
fighting in Iraq, the source said.(end)
