BAGHDAD, Aug 29 (KUNA) -- Iraqi security forces on Friday stated that they
have put a stop to what they described as "the direct sponsors of Al-Qaeda in
the Diyali province," as well as female suicide-bombers in the Iraqi area.
"Ibrahim Al-Towaijri, the direct sponsor of Al-Qaeda in Diyali has been
arrested by the Iraqi authorities," said Director of the National Command
Centre in the Iraqi Ministry of Interior Major General Abdulkarim Khalaf in a
statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
The senior army officer indicated that Al-Towaijri was an Iraqi national
and was arrested during a raid carried out by security forces in the city of
Baquba, the largest of cities in the Diyali province.
Khalaf added that a separate raid was carried out on an Al-Qaeda stronghold
in the city of Miqdadiyah north of Baquba, where armed clashes occurred with
armed militia from the movement, as well an explosion of an improvised
explosive device.
Positive investigations with a captured woman, in-charge of recruiting
female suicide bombers, resulted in the discovery of a network of female
suicide bombers as well as the arrest of three suspected women and one man.
