KABUL, July 12 (KUNA) -- Four soldiers of the Afghan National Army were
killed and five others were wounded in a suicide attack in southern
Afghanistan on Saturday.
The suicide attack on the patrol of the Afghan army was carried out in
Marja district of the restive Helmand province in the afternoon, Brigadier
General Mohammad Hussein Andiwal, police chief of Helmand province, told
journalists.
He said the bomber was wearing a suicide vest. He came close to an army
vehicle and detonated the explosives fastened to his body.
Four soldiers died on the spot while five others were shifted to hospital
in Grishk, capital of the province. Condition of some of them is stated to be
serious.
Residents said one civilian was also killed in the blast that hit the
Afghan security forces vehicle. Helmand is one of the most restive provinces
of Afghanistan where the Taliban have pockets of support in many districts.
