ISTANBUL, July 5 (KUNA) -- The Turkish army said Saturday that two
Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) members were killed in Anatolia province,
southeast of Turkey.
The Turkish Army Staff said on its website that clashes occurred in the
Hakkari governorate southeast of the country, indicating that fighting is
still going on in that area.
The army also revealed that several weapons caches were discovered in the
agricultural governorate.
The operations in southeast of Turkey come after vast land operations
against the PKK in northern Iraq last February.
About 40,000 people have been killed in tit-for-tat attacks involving the
Turkish regular forces and the PKK since 1984.
The PKK seeks to establish an independent Kurdish entity in southeast
Turkey.
The US and EU list the PKK as a terrorist group. (end)
