BAGHDAD, June 25 (KUNA) -- As many as 1,000 elements of Sahwa (awakening)
forces have gained access to the Police in Baghdad, a security spokesman said
here Wednesday.
The move came to absorb those volunteers in the police after they had
shared Iraqi security forces in the fight against terrorists and militias,
Maj. Gen. Qassem Atta, spokesman for the Baghdad Operation Command, told the
Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
But, he failed to mention the total number of Sahwa volunteers across Iraq.
Meanwhile, a security plan will be carried out in Dyala Province soon,
Spokesman for the Ministry of Defence Maj. Gen. Mohamed al-Askari told a news
conference.
Iraqi troops are well-geared for the operation in order to cleanse the
province out of terrorist groups, he said.
But, he said it was up to Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to set a
date for the imminent military operation in his capacity as general commander
of the Iraqi armed forces.
Earlier on Monday, al-Maliki told a congress of clan chiefs in Maysan that
an imminent military operation would be launched in Dyala. (end)
