Suicide attack in Mosul leaves five Iraqi policemen injured
Military and Security    6/20/2008 3:52:00 PM

BAGHDAD, June 20 (KUNA) -- Five Iraqi policemen were injured when a booby-trapped car exploded at a police checkpoint southeast of Mosul city, said a security source Friday.
The source which preferred anonymity told KUNA that the car, which was driven by a suicide bomber, exploded at a checkpoint for the police in Al-Wehda area in Mosul, adding that police opened fire on the car before it reached the checkpoint, "a heroic act which prevented more casualties and damages from occurring." Meanwhile, spokesman for the Defense Ministry at Nineveh governorate Brigadier Khaled Abdulsttar told KUNA that the body of a woman and her child dumped in the area of Zanjeyali west of Mosul city was found while five wanted criminals were arrested in Al-Medan area.
Regarding the murder of the woman and her child, the source pointed fingers at the radical organization of the Islamic State of Iraq, saying that similar incidents have occurred for the purpose of spreading fear among Mosul residents. (end) mhg.gta KUNA 201552 Jun 08NNNN
