31 LTTE rebels, one govt. soldier killed in Northern Sri Lanka clashes

NEW DELHI, June 8 (KUNA) -- At least 31 cadres of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and a government soldier have been killed in fresh clashes across Northern Sri Lanka. At least two LTTE cadres were killed in encounters in North-west Mannar yesterday, Sri Lankan Defence Ministry said in a statement Sunday. In the general areas of Nagarkovil and Muhamale in Jaffna, one rebel was killed and five others injured yesterday, the Ministry said. At the Vavuniya 17 more rebels were killed yesterday, the statement said, adding, one trooper was also killed in Northern Sri Lanka clashes. At least eight LTTE rebels were killed in clashes in Janakapura, Kokuthduvai and Kiribbanwewa in North-east Welioya yesterday, the Ministry said.
