ISTANBUL, June 7 (KUNA) -- A Turkish soldier was injured during clashes
with members of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) near borders with Iraq, said
a statement by Turkey Saturday.
The Turkish army staff said in its website that clashes occurred in the
Sirank governorate southeast of the country.
Turkey accused the PKK of using areas in northern Iraq to launch attacks
against Turkish targets in areas dominated by Kurds in southeast governorates.
About 40,000 people have been killed in years of tit-for-tat attacks
involving the Turkish regular forces and the PKK since 1984.
The PKK advocates establishing a separate Kurdish entity in southeast
Turkey. (end)
