"Several" Taliban killed in central Afghanistan: Coalition
Military and Security    6/7/2008 3:26:00 PM

KABUL, June 7 (KUNA) -- The US-led coalition troops claimed killing several Taliban during an operation in central Afghanistan.
A statement from the coalition forces' Bagram base on Saturday said the militants were eliminated in an operation in Tagab district of the central Kapisa province.
Several militants were killed and another three arrested in Tagab district after the militants attacked the troops with small and heavy arms. The troops were conducting operation in the area.
The troops responded to killing all those involved in the attack against the coalition troops.
In the same district, the statement said, a separate group attacked the joint force from inside the building. Air support was called in and all the militants there were killed, it added.
The military did not mention if any coalition or Afghan soldier was killed or injured in the fighting. Also, it did not give the exact number of militants killed in the engagements.
A day earlier, the coalition troops had claimed killing several Taliban in two operations in Helmand and Uruzgan provinces, located in the country's volatile southern zone. (end) gk.tg KUNA 071526 Jun 08NNNN
