BRUSSELS, June 2 (KUNA) -- NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer and
the Ambassador of Morocco to Belgium, Menouar Alem, signed Monday the exchange
of letters for the contribution of Morocco to Operation Active Endeavour.
This Operation aims to detect, deter and protect against terrorist activity
in the Mediterranean sea.
During the signing ceremony at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Scheffer
said: "this agreement testifies in an indisputable way to our common
determination to fight terrorism, which affects both your country and the
countries of the Alliance altogether".
The June 2004 NATO Summit in Istanbul, Turkey, decided to offer
Mediterranean Dialogue countries the possibility to contribute to Operaction
Active Endeavour.
Morocco is a very active member of NATO's Mediterranean Dialogue, both in
its political and practical cooperation, stressed a NATO statement. (end)
